The following two DNA profile reports were created
by GeneTree for DNA tests purchased by me, John Harman Webb. The testing
laboratory was SMGF, which
is an associate company of Genetree. Our family tree appears on Genetree's
website Here.
You might have to register on Genetree (free) to view the pages. This family
tree was created by a "Gedcom" file that I uploaded on their site. A Gedcom
file is a universal data file created by most genealogy software packages.
I use Legacy Family Tree software. If you would like to continue working
on our family tree, or add to it, you may download a copy of Legacy software
Here.
I would be happy to send you a copy of my file, which includes the lineage
of our ancestors that I have identified.
I purchased these tests so that I could find more of our "cousins" to share research with, and to have something to pass on to our descendents. The two DNA reports are in PDF format. The yDNA report is 18 pages, and the mtDNA report is 16 pages. I will leave these reports uploaded here as long as I am able to do web work and maintain my web domains. I suggest that you save copies of these reports on a CD, and print out copies so that our future generations may have the information they contain, and the opportunity to continue our family research. These two tests would cost $300 to repeat. My DNA profile is the same as others in our family, as explained below.
DNA Genealogy is an exact form of research that is growing in popularity. There are several DNA databases on the internet, the most popular being "ySearch" which is published by Family Tree DNA Services. My yDNA profile on ySearch is located Here. You may also search for genetic matches on GeneTree's site. I have already located several DNA matches and have been in contact with the "cousins" to exchange research. There is a Webb Surname DNA Genealogy Project established, which is a research group of Webb males that have been tested. It was through this group that I found that our earliest known Webb ancestor (shares our DNA profile) was John Webb of Henrico County, VA, and has been identified and documented by a cousin.
Both of these reports are very enjoyable to read. They contain information about where our earliest ancestors lived and migrated. Also, there are detailed sections to help you understand DNA and how DNA profiles are shared and passed on through families.
These files are fairly large in size, so it will take about 3 minutes to download each one. I suggest you "right click" on the links and choose "Save Target As" to save them on your computer. Then when they are opened, it will be easier to flip through the pages. The direct links to the reports are at the bottom of this page.
The First DNA Report is for my yDNA. ALL males in our family with the last name of WEBB share the same yDNA profile, with the exception of a possible "mutation" that could have occurred at some point in our ancestry. (Mutations are defined and explained in detail in the reports). The following list shows our male ancestors and relatives highlighted in red, all of which share the same yDNA profile. Females do not have "Y Chromosomes" and therefore cannot have yDNA tests.
John Webb (Earliest Ancestor,
b: 04/20/1694 in St. Peters Parish, Virginia d: Aft. 04/27/1736 in Henrico
Co., Virginia) (I do not have positive documented proof that this John
Webb is the father of our ancestor Jacob Webb. Research by other Webb cousins
who share our yDNA sequence have traced their lines to this John Webb though).

The Second DNA Report is for my mtDNA. Every person, male or female, receives the mtDNA profile of their mother. In other words, a mother receives her mtDNA from her mother, and the same profile is shared by her siblings and passed on to her children. However, only females can pass the profile to future generations. mtDNA research traces a person's ancestry through the mother's mother's mother's mother and so on back in time. The only other close relatives that share my mtDNA profile are David, Ann, and Paul. Our mtDNA profile cannot be passed on to future generations because there are no daughters to keep it going. We would have to go back in generations and trace the decendents of our ancestors' sibling to find an instance where females are still passing the profile down through generations of daughters. Even though you might not share the same mtDNA profile as me, the data is still important to you because you have ancestors that share this same mtDNA profile. mtDNA is sequenced differently from yDNA, and is a little more complicated. However, it is explained in detail in the report. This mtDNA profile ends in our family with David, Jim, and me because there were no females to carry it to furthur generations. We would have to go back in generations and follow the lines down to see if other branches of our family tree are still carrying the profile down. I'm not sure if Grandma Hill's sister Mona's daughters had daughters to carry it on or not, but that is the only possibility I can think of in recent generations.
The following list shows my maternal ancestors and relatives which share the same mtDNA profile as me highlighted in red, all of which share the same yDNA profile. Females do not have "Y Chromosomes" and therefore cannot have yDNA tests.

The objective of DNA Genealogy is to locate people who share one of our DNA profiles and a common ancestor, hoping that exchanging each other's research information will lead to identifying more familiy connections and ultimately another ancestor or two farther back in time.
